Apabila katarak semakin menebal, ia menyebabkan penglihatan menjadi semakin kabur kerana cahaya yang melewati lensa mata tidak dapat dipantulkan dengan baik. Tidak ada ubatan seperti makan atau titis mata yang dapat merawat katarak.<\/li><li>Pembedahan katarak moden adalah prosedur pembedahan yang dapat dilakukan dalam tempoh masa yang singkat bawah (bius) anestesia setempat serta tempoh masa pemulihan yang singkat.<\/li><li>Phacoemulsification merupakan prosedur yang sangat efektif pada masa kini.<\/li><li>Ini melibatkan penggunaan ultrasound frekuensi tinggi untuk memecahkan katarak menjadi kepingan kecil yang kemudian dapat dikeluarkan melalui luka yang sangat kecil (biasanya kurang dari 3mm). Tidak diperlukan jahitan.<\/li><li>Lensa sintetik atau dikenali sebagai Intra Ocular Lens (IOL) kemudian dimasukkan ke dalam
